Super Detailing - Details added to 3"/50 cal Gun Turret

inv_spacer.gif (807 bytes)

If you are trying to get your model to look more scale, than this is one area you should not over look.  I built my mount before I put much thought into detailing it.  First, the windows on the front.  They should be clear windows and not painted.  Don't make my mistake.  Here is a picture of the mount built "straight" from the box.  I will use it as my starting point.

There is a error in the shape of the side of the turret. Take a look at the drawing below.

Here is the correct shape of the turret.  I built up the angle by using scrap wood. turretangle.gif (3346 bytes)

I placed only one set of double doors on my turret.  I now feel that this is not correct.  I am thinking there should have been two sets of double doors.

I drilled out the wood dowel so I could add a gunner.  This is easily done and add to the overall appearance of the turret.

I drilled out the main barrel and added supports to the dish.   The dark gray on the top is the same "non-skid" color I used for the weather decks.
