Note in the drawing of the Frame, the most important
design element is the Sheer Knuckle. This is a
distinctive hull feature found on the full-sized PG class ships.
The Dumas instructions are a bit "confusing" when it
comes to the planking of the hull. IF you have the
kit, the Dumas directions, and a large willingness for
adventure, then I welcome you to use the Dumas
instructions. Otherwise, follow what I did on my
model.
What follows are instructions written by me, NOT DUMAS. If
you use these instructions, Dumas will not be
able to provide any support. Dumas instructions
tell you to place the first plank so it forms lower half
of the Sheer Knuckle. NOTE that when you are
planking, the hull is in the "upside down position" and
that moving "down" is also moving in the direction of
the Keel. I followed the Dumas instructions when I
built my first USS Crockett and the planking was hard to
do the way Dumas instructs you to. Although the first
plank that Dumas wants you to place is very difficult to
glue in place, it can be accomplished. The
planking of the hull is not only the most difficult part
in the building sequence, it is where I get most of the
questions sent to me. So when I built my second
USS Crockett, I took a hard long look at the Dumas
instructions and found some major flaws. It seems
that the Dumas instructions actually make the planking
harder than it really is! I welcome you to use my
modified planking instructions.
OK, here we go. Again, Dumas can not provide
support for these modified planking instructions.
If you have any questions, please email them to me.
