| How to cut sheet styrene |
Using a sharp hobby
knife, make a score on the line where you want to make your cut. Then bend the
styrene and it will cleanly break at your score mark.

| To water proof, or
not to water proof? |
When
building wood kits, it is extremely important that you water proof the inside of your hull.
I use epoxy resin on the bare wood, then give it a color coat. If you do not water proof
your hull, any water inside your hull will cause you problems. The wood fibers will
swell as it soaks up water, causing decks to warp, joints to loosen, and adding weight to
the boat.

| Keep your building area clean |
I
have found that IF I keep my work area clean, I can work much better. Over the
years, I would only completely clean my table after I completed a project. Now, I do
a complete clean of my table after each major step in construction. I can find
tools, pieces and work much faster in a clean work area.

| How
to cut brass tube without the pinched ends |
Cutting
brass tubing can cause pinched ends, even if you use a tubing cutter. Use a cut off
wheel on your rotary motor tool. Works great. |
