How do you guys allow the prop shaft to go through the hull without letting inany water? I would think that it would leak some water?

what kind of radio control system thinggy do you use with your model boats? I have an extry system I used for one of my airplane, is it the same kind. can i use it As long as you use the correct frequency range for your model. If you have a radio with a (Aircraft freq), you should convert your transmitter and reciever to a (surface freq.) Radio Frequencies Aircraft Use Only (72 MHz) (72 megahertz, Channels 11 - 60): This is the most popular choice for flying models. Most radios designed for model aircraft and helicopters will be available on these channels. Channel / Frequency 11/72.010 12/72.030 13/72.050 14/72.070 15/72.090 16/72.110 17/72.130 18/72.150 19/72.170 20/72.190 21/72.210 22/72.230 23/72.250 24/72.270 25/72.290 26/72.310 27/72.330 28/72.350 29/72.370 30/72.390 31/72.410 32/72.430 33/72.450 34/72.470 35/72.490 36/72.510 37/72.530 38/72.550 39/72.570 40/72.590 41/72.610 42/72.630 43/72.650 44/72.670 45/72.690 46/72.710 47/72.730 48/72.750 49/72.770 50/72.790 51/72.810 52/72.830 53/72.850 54/72.870 55/72.890 56/72.910 57/72.930 58/72.950 59/72.970 60/72.990 Surface Use Only (75 MHz) (75 megahertz, Channels 61-90): Cars, boats, and other non-flying models must use one of these channels. Pistol grip radios are available on 27 MHz as well as 75. Channel / Frequency 61/75.410 62 /5.430 63/75.450 64/75.470 65 /5.490 66/75.510 67/75.530 68/75.450 69/75.570 70/75.590 71/75.610 72/75.630 73/75.650 74/75.670 75/75.690 76/75.710 77/75.730 78/75.750 79/75.770 80/75.790 81/75.810 82/75.830 83/75.850 84/75.870 85/75.890 85/75.910 87/75.930 88/75.950 89/75.970 90/75.990 All Uses (27 & 50 MHz) (27 megahertz, Channels A1-A6 and 50 megahertz, Channels 00-09) While legal for air or surface use, we recommend that 27MHz be used only for surface models. A pilot and driver broadcasting on the same 27MHz frequency would cause interference and could cause a crash. 50MHz channels can be used for R/C, but require the user to attain a Technician-class amateur radio license from the FCC. Channel / Frequency A1/26.995 A2/27.045 A3/27.095 A4/27.145 A5/27.195 A6/27.255 00/50.800 01/50.820 02/50.840 03/50.860 04/50.880 05/50.900 06/50.920 07/50.940 08/50.960 09/50.980 -------------------- Jim

How do you guys allow the prop shaft to go through the hull without letting inany water? I would think that it would leak some water? In order to allow the prop shaft to go through the hull (like real ships) we use what is called a "stuffing box". Some have also called a "stuffing box" a "stern tube". The stern tube is simply a tube with bearings on each end that support the prop shaft. The stern tube is filled with oil (thicker than water) or grease. The oil/grease prevent water from leaking into the hull. The drawing below shows a stern tube I designed for my USS Crockett to prevent "spider" cracks from the props thrust pushing against the prop strut. The grease fill tube is used to maintain grease in the stern tube. In real ships, at times water does leak from the stern tubes. This "leak rate" must be kept within specs and is greatly reduced by the crew maintaining proper alignment of the stern tube and prop shafts. In my models I have seen a drop of two seep into my hull at the most. If you keep the shafts in aligned and the stern tubes filled with grease, leakage of water is not going to ever be a problem. Hope this give a quick answer to your question. -------------------- |

Why should I join this fourm/board? I am a member of other boards. What has this one got that i am missng with the others? Also, has anyone ever used the graupner two clyinder steam engine before? You have asked a good question. There are quite a number of model fourms out there today on the net. For example, one that I am a member of and highly recommend is Warship Models Underway! Message Board. This board is for those who enjoy warship models. This board is run by Kurt Greiner and he asks you all to remember that his discussion board is for Warship models, not a general place to post photos of any boat or ship model you happen to have. While he does enjoy well built civilian models too, he tries very hard keeping his website and forum on topic. Even if you do not have a warship model, you can read the posts and learn alot about the hobby. If you are a member of another board, we hope that you continue to support them. MODEL MARINA DISCUSSION BOARD This board is set up to cover the "Scale" R/C model boat and ship hobby. This covers scale fishing type boats to scale tugs. Scale model warships are also an item that even I have a few projects on the building tables. I don't tend to be as strict to the type of models as long as they are scale in nature. Hits * Easy to use. This board is easy to use and it’s simple to learn it’s added features. * On-Line Chat. * Blogs. Each member can create there own Blog on their models. * Gallery. Each member can create there own Gallery of pictures/movies on their models. * Search. An excellent Search feature to help find what you are looking for. * My Controls. An easy to use area to modify your personal settings, like your Avatar, email address, website information etc. * My Assistant. An easy to use area to quickly read PMs from other members. * Pictures. Members are allowed to post up to 10 pictures per post. * E-mail notifications. Members can get email notifications of new post and new PMs. * Edit Signature. Members can edit their Signature to include both graphics and HTML. * Messenger. Each member has an easy to use messenger to compose messages, read and save messages and you are allowed to create folders to store your messages! * Your personal note pad. As a part of your Control Panel, you are given an area to save “notes” of information that me be useful at a later time. * Other Hobbies. An area for members to share the other hobbies they enjoy. * Warn System. A system set up to identify members who post items that are inappropriate (to include SPAM). This takes out the garbage and filters the posts. * NO FEE. IT”S ALL FREE! Misses * Low members. This is where you can help. The staff of this board would welcome you to join and help to support this board. Please note that ALL SPAM posts are quickly deleted, and members noted. -------------------- |

can you tell me a quick tip to make my models look nore real? Here is a quick tip. When you finish with your models clear coat them with a "flat" finish. This makes them look more real. When they have a "gloss" finish, they tend to look like TOYS. -------------------- |

I want to use the Dumas speed control but my friends have told me to use an ESC. So why should I? ihave the Dumas one and I do not want to buy another. Dumas uses what is called a variable resistor style speed control. This type of spped control is far less effective and effeciant than an ESC. Plus, using a Dumas spped control, if you do not have the control set to off (slider in the midle) it will drain your battery and you wouldn't know it! |

Can anyone tell me where I can get a couple of the 3700 series Pitman motors that are widely used for the Mr. Darby Tug? Where can I get them and what is the cost of these motors each? I have a 48" inland water way Tow Boat ( barge pusher) that I have built from scratch that needs a couple of monster motors. The boat has 50lbs. of balast not including batteries and other RC gear and running hardware. I am currently using 2 Pittman 9000 series motors but the dont seem to be as big and powerful as the 3700 series motors I've been hearing about. The boat is very nice and I have spend probably a couple hundred hrs on building it, but it just doesnt have the power I want it to have. Any info on where to find a couple of the 3700 series Pittmans would greatly appreciated!!! Thanks - Ben bolin03@hotmail.com
