I too have the Dumas Creole Queen. I understand why you want something better than the O Ring that Dumas uses. I have not seen a true drive system for a paddle wheel. Funny thing is, there is allot of people who have used the Dumas system to drive this model and it worked fine. Just remember to use the center fin or your turns could get very wide. cool.gif

it seems like it should be easy to find i gear box setup that would work, and i have seen some nice looking wheelers on the internet that people have scratch built but no one talks about what they use for a drive setup sad.gif ....is your queen built yet?? if it is i would love to see pics of the interior layout and supports......my hull is done and i am starting on the first deck so i am decifering the plans for it now.....the instructions are terrible....lol....also what do you seal your wood with??? i use west system on everything and then sand and fill it till its smooth then do my assembly.....it works well but is time consuming

The hull is still on the building board. I have been putting my efforts on the USS Crockett. Plus I will be working on a 1/96th scale CG-54 USS Antietam in a few weeks. The Crockett build is moving right along. The Queen may not get much done on her for awhie. I was building it just to play around with the kids (girls) at the lake. My boys have thier own boats. I agree about the instructions, although they are much better than some other Dumas kits!

Here is a link to what I use to seal the plywood with, it also works great for installing fiberglass cloth:

ok if you havent taken your queen off the board yet, just remember that when they say the hull curve has to be right....they mean it....at the stern were the deck curves up if you get it right the 1st level lines up nicely so be sure to double check the lines,.......

i am starting to add my 1st level now but am dragging my feet as i am still trying to find drive options.......

OH and i am so mad at you......i bought the mr darby as my first kit so i could follow your build and then you broke it.....AAAAHHHHHGGGGG!!!! i waited for over a year for your updates....lol....

i was gonna do a crockett but decided that i wanted to follow your build on the ssy hull so i bought 3 different hulls of my own....a gearing a fletcher and an iowa so i am waiting with growing anticipation for you to start on yours.....you have the best build site i have found on the internet biggrin.gif

Sorry... huh.gif But things never seem to go the way we intend... do they? dry.gif So here is an update to the projects I will be working on the next few months.

1. USS Crockett - Dumas kit. I will have this kit built to the point of having it in the water by the time the lakes thaw here in North Dakota. I could have it to this point by a few weeks getting me to the lakes before they freeze, but other things need my time. I will also have the website updated to follow along as I build. Other builds I've built at my own pace and went back later and did an update. Doing the updates as I build I seem to be doing far much work on the website than the model... smile.gif But there was a large number of emails I was getting about this model. So I wanted to rebuild it and do a much more detailed website.

2. USS Antietam CG-54 - I am working on this now. This is a 1/96th scale model using a Scale Shipyard hull. I have some Scale Shipyard and Sirmar fittings to use on this project also. But the major thing I will be doing is using the Ticonderoga Class lasers for the superstructure. These lasers I have ordered from Homeport Model Ships. I have and will be working with Eric Bertelsen of Homeport to do an area on my website showing this build in detail. I have already started the HTML and the "basic" area on the Model Marina has been made! biggrin.gif When I get more done I will open that area for the public to view. I will have this model built to the point of having it in the water by the time the lakes thaw here in North Dakota.

Work has stopped to on the following models:

Creole Queen
DD-963 USS Spruance
Aziz
Mister Darby (I have a new kit in storage, just awaiting time to build. (Maybe I'll sale it on ebay?) cool.gif

So you see, I will be working on only two models this winter. I may put some time on the others, but my main effort will go to the top two. If anyone has any ?'s, please let me know.

Again, sorry. 3 SSY hulls... Got any pictures of your builds that you can post? This may be a good subject for you to start a Blog. Give me a few months to get the suff I need (Don has some Sitek running H/W on order) If you want to be kept updated on this build let me know.

yes i do want to be kept up to date on the ssy hull build.....i havent done much with mine yet as i am still looking into information on the best way to do things.....

one is a dd hull that i got from ebay and it has motors and running hardware installed and the deck supports in the deck itself is cut out.....i am trying to figure out how to make the rudders removable for service without cutting a hole in the hull......kurt from mwuw had a good idea he sent but he used it on a much larger ship....the dd rudder shafts are to small to use his suggestion effectivly i believe...if you have any ideas i would love to hear them

i am looking at digital cameras as i think it may be a good idea to post some of my problems and solutions....maybe it would be of help to someone else

on your darby did you ever get your pitman motors installed??? i am not sure how to mount them properly and was waiting to see yours sad.gif

hopefully you are taking pics of your queen build, as it is a fun boat to build and i am sure alot of people would love to see it.

my next problem to tackle is drilling the rudder shaft holes out in my queen and getting them strait in referance to the hull.....havent figured out how to level the hull properly yet.
