The USS Anteitam was the third AEGIS cruiser to have the Mk 41 Vertical Launch System. For this project I will be using a fiberglass hull and some fittings from The Scale Shipyard. I also will be using some fittings from Sirmar. The superstructure is from Homeport Model Ships.

Progress: 5%

Status: In work.

SCALE: This is a 1/96 scale model of CG-54 and measures 71 inches long.

I will be doing a web area for this model and should be open soon. I have started on this model and pictures will be posted soon. wink.gif

Here is a quick update. I got the hull from The Scale Shipyard back in 2000! Since it's been in storage until this past Spring. I had planned to start on it but other personal predicaments and obligations prevented me from doing much then. Now things have settled down and I have the time I need to get this one done.

First I inspected the hull and started to work on the center seam. I sanded the seam and cleaned the hull with isopropyl alchol. Then I used filler to fill the areas where the center seam is.

Next I will work on the hull details to include the bilge keels, torpedo tube doors and stern openings for the SQL-25 Nixie towed torpedo decoy. Lots of stuff ahead! cool.gif

I got my lasers from Homeport Model Ships yesterday. Started laying out the superstructure today. I really like the lasers. biggrin.gif

I am still waiting for some stuff I ordered from Loyalhanna Dockyard. Included in that order is the running H/W from Sitek.

Thanks for the comment Eric. Later when the USS Antietam web area is open, it will show what I did with your superstructure lasers. As of now I am still waiting for the running hardware to come in. Once that is in I can move on the spuerstructure.

Here is a quick peek at what I will have inside the hull:

12 volt battery
Two Dumas (Pittman) motors
Two Electronize Speed Controls
A Power Distribution Panel
A Robbe receiver and other radio gear
A Robbe Multi-Prop 8 Decoder (May hold off on this--- my just use toggle switches to control RADAR units)

I will use a micro motor to control the AN/SPS-49 Air Search Radar and a micro servo to turn the nav Radar unit.

Grav,

It will still yet be some time before I post pictures of my CG-54. You are welcome to view the USS Bunker Hill area. This model is being built by Eric of Homeport Models. You can see his build here: USS BUNKER HILL BUILD
