Jens sent me some more information about his Mister Darby.  The following is the information from Jens:

In the beginning of 1980 just after the completion of a large number of Graupner ship models I was looking for some fresh new boat-kits. This time I was looking for a bigger challenge, of putting as many working options as possible into the model. At that time Dumas came out with a new model, it was a large scale 5/16”: 1’ tug Mr. Darby.

I remember my love for working ships (Tugs, Recovery, Rescue & Fishery Patrol Vessels just to name a few) and I thought that the Mr. Darby would be the right model to do all the functions I had in my mind. Two club members where also interested in the tug, so we proceeded to order the model-kit complete with the running-kit which had to be purchased separately. We had to wait a few weeks, so I kept my self-busy making up wiring diagrams. I also started to make up a list with all the options. It helps very much when you know where you’re going before you even start building the model.

Then finally five weeks later the kits arrived, we could hardly wait to get home and open up the boxes. I must say, the quality of the wood did not tickle my fancy, it was discouraging. However a very nicely executed hull was bringing my spirits up again.
