At this point in the
construction, I like to apply resin to the inside of the
hull. The resin serves several purposes. It
water proofs the inside of the hull. It provides
an excellent surface to apply paint. But the most
important role the epoxy performs is support. When
you glued the planking together it is highly unlikely
that every plank was glued at it's entire length to the
plank next to it. There are areas where the
planking is not supported. This lack of support
can be found either down the length of the plank or
where it was glued to the frames. By applying
resin to the inside of the hull it bonds the planks and
provides support. This support will be needed when
you sand the hull to contour. IF the planks are
not supported, they will move during the sanding process
and will not allow you to make a clean, smooth surface.
Any large gaps should be filled with filler or epoxy
mixed with micro balloons
