With several "full-length" planks made and one soaking,
we are ready to begin the planking.

The first plank makes
up a large portion of the Sheer Knuckle on one side.
The second plank will make up an other large portion of
the opposite side. It does not matter what side you
start with. Instead of starting with the
underside of the Sheer |

Knuckle in the
Dumas instructions, we are going to start with the upper
(toward the deck or the building board... remember
the hull is upside down) part of the Sheer Knuckle.
The first plank should
be fitted to the hull quite carefully so that the sheer
knuckle is developed distinctly. The knuckle is an
important visual element in the hull shape. The forward
ends of the planks should be trimmed so that they end
on an imaginary plane that extends vertically from the
center of the keel.
For the planking I used Thick CA. This may cure a bit too quickly
for most people. You may wish to change to another
type of waterproof glue with a longer working time.
TEE pins may also be of some help in holding the planks
in position while they dry.
After
the first plank has soaked, dry off the plank by PULLING
it through a towel. DO NOT push it through, you'll
brake it! You just want to remove the excess
water.
Now place the wet and soaked soft
end of the plank around the bow. It should form
nicely
to the frames forming the upper part of the Sheer
Knuckle. Work down the length of the hull
and glue the first plank in place.
