Stanchions
All stanchions (uprights) are 1/16 brass
rod cut long enough to extend into the deck 1/8" to 3/16". There are three
different styles of railings on this ship. The first is the welded pipe rails, second type
is the wire rope and the third type of railing is chain which is used in those areas where
personnel or material must be moved through the railings fairly often.
For the welded pipe rails, I used 1/32"
brass. For the wire rope I used Berkley® FIRELINE® 14 LB test fishing line.
This has the appearance of wire braided rope and was attached to the stanchions with CA
and painted. I used the chain included in the kit for the chain.. Duh.

Chocks
I was completely unhappy with the metal
chocks that were included in the Deck Hardware set. So I tossed them out and made a
"master" from styrene. I then cast the needed chocks, painted and attached
them to the deck. The picture below shows both the chock included in the deck
hardware set and the chock I made.

Ladders
I made a set of ladders from brass as described in the
kit directions. Again I was unhappy with the final appearance of the ladders.
I tossed them out and made a new set from styrene. The new ones look much better!

Hatches
The plans show how to fabricate the needed hatches for
the deck. It does not describe the escape scuttle on the hatches. All of the
hatches have an escape scuttle but two. These being the one on the bow and the
second one buy the 40mm Bofors used for moving ammo. Also, all of the escape
scuttles open to the aft of the ship.
