Planking

Roger's Notes: The first four planks take the most time.  I did have a photo of these planks, but it didn't turn out.  This gives you an idea of the planking process in progress.  NOTE: The Elmers glue in the photo was not used in this project.  It was used on another project while the planks were drying. The white lines are the seams where the CA that reacted with the moisture in the balsa.  The CA I used was easy to sand and gave me excellent results.  Also, note that the planks contact from bow to stern.  This is not difficult to achieve.  Take your time.

Superstructure parts
Roger's Notes: The stamped pieces that formed the superstructure went together very easily.

Roger's Notes: With some CA, the superstructure went together quite fast.  .

Quality of Fit
Rating: 5 out 5

After opening the kit box, I found exceptional quantity of high quality balsa and plywood.  Most of the balsa was made up of 1/2" x 1/8" strips for planking the hull.  I looked through them and found no problems with any.

As for the plywood, it also was of a high quality.  The parts were stamped crisp and needed little effort to free.  There were no warps or bends in any wood in my kit.  This is hard to find in such a large kit as this.

Joining the KEEL and SHEERS

Roger's Notes: The stamped pieces fall form the sheets with little effort.  One sheer had to be cut out with a hobby knife.  The stamp did not go deep enough on that sheet.

Roger's Notes: The frames and sheers are tied together with twine.  They fit snugly.  Here I am test fitting the parts getting ready to pin it to my work table upside down.  The final glued frame was straight and true.
