Model Stand

A model stand for the hull is needed.  The purpose of a stand is to protect the hull from damage.  A stand also secures the model allowing you work on your model more easily.  A stand can come in the form of a dedicated stand made for the hull you are working on, or a simple foam pad. The pictures below give you an example of a few stands.

During the construction process I often use a simple wooden stand made to hold model aircraft.  This is an inexpensive stand that provides a very secure base to hold your model while you work on it.  Dust from sanding, paint drops or spilled glue will not hurt this simple stand.  For display I often use a wooded display stand that I have made.  I make the end parts using a contour gauge, then stain and finish.  For those who don't want to make their own stand, Homeport Model Ships now offers a stand made from plexi-glass.  These stands are great for display and can also provide a secure base during the construction process.
