Cut a 1" x 1-1/2" piece of Micro-Lite® plywood from the scrap of one of the die-cut sheets. Shape the edges of this part to fit against the underside of the deck and against the transom, about 1/2" to the right side of the rear hatch, as shown. This part will become the steering tube support.

Rotate the steering arm so that it faces the transom.

Measure the distance from the transom to the inside hole on the steering arm. Mark this mea­surement on the steering tube support. Drill a 1/8" hole through the support at this location, about 3/8" from the top edge, as shown.

Use Slow CA to glue the steering tube support in position. Then, insert the curved end of the steering tube into the support so that it sticks out about 1/2" beyond the support, as shown.



 


Antenna & Steering Tubes

You will need the two 24" nylon tubes and the 24" braided metal cable in the Hardware Bag to complete this sub-assembly.

Make a 90' curved bend in one end of the last 4" of each piece of nylon tubing by heating the tubing over a match or candle flame. Rotate the tubing while moving it back and forth over the flame. As it becomes soft, bend the curve. Hold it in position for about 30 seconds, until the tubing cools.

Insert the straight end of each nylon tube into the holes on each side of F4, F3 and F2. Start at F4 and work forward.

Position the curved end of the antenna tube (the tube on the left side of the hull) against the transom, so that it ends flush with the edge of the hatch support, as shown. Then, use Slow CA to glue this tube to the hatch support and to the frames it passes through.
