Cut the keel filler strip in half. Sand the edges of one piece to fit snugly into the groove over the stuffing box, between K1 and K3. Apply Slow CA to the edges of the groove and the stuffing box.  Press the filler strip into the groove. Trim the ends of the filler strip flush with the edges of K1 and K3.

KEEL

Apply Slow CA to the groove in K1. Press the stuffing box into the groove. The groove in K1 will cause the stuffing box to self-align when it is pushed into the groove. The back end of the stuffing box should stick out 1/16" to 1/8" beyond the back end of K1, as shown. Hold it in position until the Slow CA has cured.

Apply Slow CA to the edge of K3 that will contact the stuffing box. Lay K3 flat on the building board. Press it into contact with the stuffing box so that its top edge is aligned with the drawing of K3 on the plan.

Roger's Notes: If, when installing K3, the back edge of this part does not align with the drawing, that is OK. It is more important that K3 be aligned as described above. Later, after the keel is removed from the plan, the edges of K3 indicated by the arrows can be sanded or built up with scrap wood to match the plan.
