KEEL

Apply Slow CA to the edge of
K2 where it will contact K1. Lay K2 flat on the building
board. Align it with the drawing of K2 on the plan and press it
firmly into contact with K1. Hold it in position until the Slow
CA cures (about 20 seconds). Then, pin K2 flat on the building
board.
Roger's Notes:
When pressing the keel parts together, be sure that both parts
are flat on the board so the edges are flush, as shown.

CORRECT

INCORRECT

Test-fit the stem against K2,
as shown on the plan. If necessary, sand the mating edges
with a sanding block so that the joint is tight when the stem is
aligned with the drawing of the stem. Then, apply Slow CA to the
stem and press it into place against K2.

Use a
toothpick to apply a small amount of oil to the ends of the
stuffing box so that it lubricates the prop shaft, as shown.

Roger's Notes:
The purpose of applying the oil at this time is to prevent
adhesives from accidentally bonding the prop shaft to the
stuffing box in the following instructions. Do not omit this
step. Also, the stuffing box contains brass bushings. To prevent
dust or glue from getting on the bushings and damaging them, do
not remove the prop shaft during construction. |
