Insert the staysail mast through the mast support and into the mast step. Make a wedge from scrap wood to hold the mast securely in position, as shown. Feed the cordage through the cotter pin in the deck and secure it to the cleat on the rear deck hatch, as shown.

Ballasting

You will need ballast and resin, not supplied with the kit to complete this sub assembly.

The ballast can be any lead weight that will fit through the holes in the sub-deck and that will lay on the bottom sheeting. Lead shot mixed with resin makes excellent ballast. Lead shot can be purchased at most gun shops or Wal-Mart®.

In order for your model to move through the water smoothly it must be balanced, or ballasted. To do this properly, place the model in the water with all batteries, radio components, motor and drive gear connected and mounted in their proper positions. The only parts not in the model at this time should be the cockpit deck halves, the staysail and the stack.

Roger's Notes:  If you are using only one battery pack, but may use two packs at another time, make up some ballast to the same weight as your battery pack and place it in the position of the missing pack, as shown. However, if you are sure you will never use a second battery pack, ignore this note.

With the model in the water, place your ballast through the openings in the sub-deck so that the model floats in an upright attitude on the waterline, as shown. Then, carefully place the model in the display cradle and glue the ballast in place with resin. Allow the resin to cure before going on.
