Hull Construction
Roger's Notes: Frames F3 and F4 should be a slip fit in the sub-deck slots. If these parts fit too tightly, lightly sand the edges of the slots to widen them.

step.gif (1063 bytes)
Apply Slow CA to the top of the triangle stock on F4. Slip the back end of the sub-deck through the hole in F4. Push F4 up into the slots in the subdeck. Center F4 with the sub-deck and press it into position.

Test-fit the slot in F1 on the keel. If the slot is too narrow to slip over the keel, open it slightly by carefully shaving the edges of the slot with a sharp X-Acto® knife. If necessary, trim the slot so that the glue joint on F1 is centered on the keel. Then, apply Slow CA to the keel and glue F1 into position. Use a square to align F1 with the keel, as shown.

Test fit the breasthook on the keel. It should rest flat on the keel, with its back edge in contact with F1, as shown. If necessary, trim the slot in the breasthook to obtain the correct fit. Then, apply Slow CA to the keel and using a square to align the breasthook, press it against the keel and F1. Do not glue the breasthook to F1 yet.

Hull Assembly

You will need the following parts listed below to complete this section. They are all in Bag Number Two (#2). You will also need the previously assembled keel, sub-deck and frames.

(6) - 3/16" X ¾" X 24"
Balsa Chine Logs

(2) - 5/32" X 5/32" X 24"
Basswood Keel Strips

Apply Slow CA to the top side of the triangle stock on F2. Center the sub-deck against F2, as shown, and press it into contact with the triangle stock. Hold it in position until the Slow CA cures (about 20 seconds). Then, make a filler strip from scrap die-cut wood to fit the top of the triangle stock between the edges of the sub-deck. Glue it in place with Slow CA, as shown.

Roger's Notes: Some instructions will tell you to "center" one part with another. If there is a difference in size between the two parts, that difference should be equalized on each side, as shown. Later in construction, these differences will be sanded flush when the hull is "faired".

Apply Slow CA to the top of the triangle stock on F3. Slip F3 through the slots in the sub-deck. Center F3 with the sub-cockpit and press it into position.
