Position the cockpit deck halves on the sub-deck.   Make a "U" shaped hanger from a piece of the soft brass wire by bending the wire around the stack, as shown.

Position the cockpit deck halves on the sub-deck.  Position the stack on the cockpit deck and against the rear edge of the cockpit roof, as shown here and on the plan. Mark the location of the stack on the deck. Also, place the hanger around the stack and press it against the rear cockpit roof frame to mark its location on the frame.

Remove the stack and the cockpit deck halves.   Drill two 1/16" holes through the rear cockpit roof frame for the hanger. Drill a 1/4" hole through the cockpit deck, at the location of the stack. Enlarge this hole with an X-Acto® knife to allow the stack to fit tightly into it. Then, paint the stack and hanger black. Place these parts aside. They will not be needed again until the cockpit deck is glued in place.
 


 


Exhaust Stack

You will need the 9/32" x 10" brass tube, the 1/4" x 3/4" brass tube, and the 1/16" x 4" soft brass wire from the Accessory Bag to complete this sub-assembly.

You will also need the previously finished cockpit deck halves.

Use the drawing of the stack on the Side View of the plan as a pattern. Cut through the 10" brass tube with a razor saw, at the angle shown on the plan. Remove the burrs from the inside edges of the cut with an X-Acto® knife.

Cut one end of the 1/4" x 3/4" brass tube at an angle, as shown. Sand the outside of this tube until it is shiny. Then assemble the stack parts, as shown.

Lay the assembled parts on some scrap wood, as shown, so the joint is not in contact with the wood. Use t-pins to hold the parts in position. Solder the joints together. use a flat file to smooth the joints. Then, cut the top part of the stack to the length shown on the plan.
