Painting & Detailing

Hand Rails

You will need two 3/32" x 3/2" x 24" pieces of mahogany from Bag Number Two (#2) and the remaining pieces of this material from the toe rails to complete this sub-assembly.

Use the drawings of the hand rails on the plan as patterns to cut the hand rail parts to length. These parts are too small to be pinned to the plan and can easily be assembled by holding them in position with your fingers and bonding them with CA, as shown. Make two of each hand rail.

After assembly, use a sanding block to sand the joints flush and smooth. Also, use the sanding block to sand the angle at each end of the hand rails.

Toe Rails and Skids

Use the remaining pieces of mahogany from Step #203 to widen the toe rails at the stem head, as shown here and on the plan.

Roger's Notes:  As I have stated before, I did my moldings differently.  I removed the stem head from my model.  Here are the details on what I did with my bow.  Note that I have yet to remove the "flash and mold markings" from the fairleads.

I used some scrap
pieces of 1/16" x 1/8" x 24" mahogany from Bag Number Two (#2) to add these details.
