The Cabin

step.gif (1063 bytes)
Remove the cabin sides from the hull. Use an X-Acto® knife and sanding block to remove any wood above the pencil lines on the coamings.

Roger's Notes: If necessary, also trim the bottom edges of the coamings so they are a constant width, as shown.

When I built my boat, I only marked the sides of the  coamings to indicate the deck edge.  I used this line to align the sides for gluing.  After the coamings were glued in place, I sanded them flush with the deck.  DO NOT use this technique if you are new to modeling.

Fit the cabin sides into the hull so that the tops
01 the cabin sides are parallel, and the tops 01 the coamings are flush with the deck. Glue the cabin sides to F2 and the deck edge with CA.

Roger's Notes: When gluing the cabin sides to the deck edge, work in short sections at a time. Push the cabin sides against the deck, apply CA and hold the joint together until the CA cures (about 15 seconds). If the CA fails to bond the cabin sides securely to the deck edge, use CA to glue scrap wood flush with the underside of the deck edge, as shown in your manual. This will provide additional gluing area and support for the cabin sides.

Cabin Sides

step.gif (1063 bytes)
Insert two pieces of die-cut scrap between the front cabin sides and deck, as shown.

Roger's Notes: If necessary, tie string across the top of the cabin window frames and the shoring between the cabin sides and deck, as shown, to prevent the cabin sides from twisting.

After the cabin sides are dry (about an hour for alcohol, overnight for water), remove the shoring. The cabin sides should now have a permanent curve in them that will allow easy fitting and adjustment.

Bend the cabin sides into the slots in F2. Butt the notches in the front of the sides against the deck, at F1. Align the top edges of the cabin sides so that they are parallel to each other, as in the note on Step #156. Then, pull the coamings against the deck edge and draw a pencil line on the coamings to indicate the deck edge.
