Layout and trace the display cradle templates onto the basswood blocks in the same manner as Steps #131 - #133.   Then use a razor saw to cut the display cradle ends from the blocks.

Drill 1/4" holes at the indicated spots on each block. Insert the wood dowels, as shown. Apply a drop of CA at each joint to bond the dowels to the blocks.

Roger's Notes: Take care when it comes time to glue the cradle together.  You need to ensure that the cradle is not twisted or warped and will sit squarely on the work bench.  If the cradle is warped, just twist the end pieces until it is square, then glue.

At this point, sand and finish your cradle.  I stained mine.  After your cradle is dry, add some felt or foam to the surfaces of the cradle that will come in contact with the hull.

Cradles

At this point, it would be helpful to have a cradle to hold the hull. Two cradles are provided in this kit; a display cradle and a working cradle. Only the working cradle will be of use in the following sections. However, it will be easier to build both cradles at the same time.

Working Cradle

The working cradle is simply a device for holding the hull steady on the workbench. After the boat is finished, you will find that the working cradle is very handy while operating your boat at a lake or pond. Since it can be put in your pocket when carrying or running your boat, it eliminates the need to transport a large cradle.

You will need the 5/16" x 1-3/8" x 4-1/2" basswood block in Bag Number Five (#5) to complete this sub-assembly.

Cut the template for the working cradle from the plan. Fold the paper along the bottom edge of the template drawing, as shown.

Lay a piece of carbon paper over the basswood block. Then, lay the template over the block, as shown, so the fold Is against the edge of the block. Then, trace the template with a pencil.

Trim the slot in the cradle to fit loosely over the keel.

Display Cradle

You will need the two 5/16" x 2-1/2" x 4-1/2" basswood blocks in Bag Number Five (#5) and the two 1/4" x 17-7/8" wood dowels in Bag Number Two (#2) to complete this subassembly.
