Operation & Maintenance:

Maintenance

The stuffing box and prop shaft are the only items requiring routine maintenance. After about four hours of running time, the prop shaft should be pulled from the stuffing box and cleaned to remove any dirt. Grease should be packed into the bushings at both ends of the stuffing box, as shown in Step #282, and the prop shaft re-installed.

The people at Midwest Products hope you have enjoyed building your Boothbay Lobsterboat, and sincerely wish you the best of times running it.

Operation

Before each operating session, be sure to check the following items:

1

Apply a drop of light oil to each end of the prop shaft, between the stuffing box and collar and the stop nut.

2 Be sure the motor batteries are charged.

3 Be sure the radio batteries have been charger (if using Ni-Cads) or fresh (if using dry cells)

4 Be sure to perform a range check of your radio.

5 Be sure that the Cabin Roof Hatch is OPEN while running your Lobsterboat.  This is to insure that enough cooling air circulates around the motor.
