Hull Preparation Cont.

Using Plan Sheet #1 and Figs. #9 and #10 as a reference, remove the surplus fiberglass from the boat deck sides; mark and cut out the six freeing ports; the angled rebates where the large rear bollards will fit; the V-shaped section in the transom and the five holes for mooring rings AC26. Note that the rear deck support strips are level with the top of the D-section rubbing strake molding on the outside of the hull, and the lower edges of the rear freeing ports are 1.5 mm above this line (so that the rear deck will be flush with the freeing ports when fitted).

After I marked the location of the freeing ports and bollard rebates, I then cut these areas out.  I first used a drill bit to make the radius cuts then used a steel ruler to aide me in connecting the holes.  I also used the steel ruler to aide in filing the cut outs.

Use the template part from printed plastic sheet PPS1 to mark out the bollard cut-outs; note that the steeper sloping edge is at the front of each cut-out. Sand the inner faces of the hull molding above the level of the deck support strips to a smooth finish before proceeding; a 12 volt mini-drill and sanding drum is ideal for this task. Be sure to wear a protective mask when sanding fiberglass, and remove all traces of dust before continuing.
